We spend the whole day on the island today. We (Wendy) set a goal of 20,000 steps a day for this vacation. I now realize that is equal to 3 hours of steady walking per day. Not just walking, stopping for 2 or 3 minutes to look at things and take pictures but walking at a good steady pace. Oh well. So far we achieved our goal with a couple of 25,000 steps days. Not sure how well we will do on the weekend as we will probably be driving a fair bit between stops.
So our first walk today was around the island. we did the whole loop and even walked out to all the piers and crossed over the 2 bridges that connects the island to the mainland. It took a little bit over 1 hour and we had close to 7000 steps almost 5KM.

Love the blue doors on this place |

View over the bridge to the main part of Syracusa |

Looking down at the water on our walk, no wonder there are so many fisherman with lines |
|
Castle that we haven't had a chance to visit yet |
|
First time we have seen this, snorkelers for sea urchins |
Just before lunch I walked to one of the information center to see if there was any events in town. Tomorrow night there a theater but it is in Italian, unless it is very cheap, we will probably not go.

Ruins in a middle of a square |

The water was off at the fountain today. |
Spent the afternoon reading travel books and working on pictures.
Another walk before supper as Wendy is behind me in steps. Nothing too exciting.

First person we have seen in swimming, beaches are not so nice, very rocky |

This section of the sidewalk is roped off, you have to walk on the street. Noticed today why, check out the erosion under the road! |
|
One way to stop motorcycles from coming down your street |
We made a chilli like supper. No chilli spice here but we had bought a bottle to tomatoes sauce that had a pepper on it and mixed it with a bottle of tomatoes. Turned out pretty good.
Walk # 4 for me and #3 for Wendy, We decided to go watch the sunset and walk the small streets around town until Wendy had done her 20K steps.
We stopped by Avis to check out the car rental for the weekend. Looks like it is all set, we talked to the man about parking on Sunday night and returning the car on Monday. He spoke very good English and it looks like we may be able to pick it up around 8:30 on Saturday even if they only open officially at 9.
The store that sells only fish ornaments for the house was open, so many styles and artists, all beautiful.
Picked up 2 2liter bottles of water as we were told not to drink the water. Outside the grocery store, there a vending machine but it is not for tobacco cigarette, prices starting at 20 Euro.

Love the colours on the Duomo at sunset |

Wonder if these vending machines will ever make it to Canada? |
Finished off the night with a pistachio ice cream, it has been two days so I was overdue.
Spend the evening planning the weekend, where to go , what to see and what route to take.
I think that I will like the fish store.
