We are off on our long awaited vacation to South
America. After cancellations due to
Covid a couple of times we are finally going.
Marc and Mary-Sue gave us a drive to the airport, we are travelling with
way too much luggage, hard to pack for summer and winter in the same trip. A couple of hours to kill in Montreal, really
miss Moe’s for smoked meat at the airport.
Connected through San Pedro, Brazil.
Weirdest connection, had to get off the plane with all of our things, go
through this crazy route in the airport, wait 2 hours, then get back on the
same plane with the same seats, but different crew. Final destination Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Buenos Aires Airport pickup was arranged with our Bed and
Breakfast, happy to find our driver with a sign with our name, $25 USD for a 45
minute drive. Drive from airport and we
see many people picnicking along the highway, not my idea of a picnic area, but
there was greenspace, and it is outside.
Arrive at our bed and breakfast, only 6 rooms, it suits us fine. For $55.00 USD a night we got everything we
needed. The owner meets us, explains how
to get the best rate for USD in Argentina, wish we had brought
more USD to take advantage of this “blue” rate.
It is a crazy exchange thing happening in Argentina, you exchange money
at these “exchange” places and get nearly twice the amount you would than if
you used a credit card. We are there too late tonight to take advantage of this, we will need to use our credit cards
for the night. Off to explore the Palermo
area where we are staying the first couple of nights in Buenos Aires. Find a nice little bar around the corner and get
our first drinks Aperol Spritz and Beer. Find another place with a special for supper, but you must pay cash, will take more advantage of these specials starting tomorrow when we have some cash.
It is extremely hot, they are experiencing a heat wave this weekend, but
supposed to be much better tomorrow. Off
to bed early, exhausted from long travel day and looking forward to exploring
tomorrow.
