Hoi An to Da Nang

A little later getting moving this morning,  that means there were only 4 of us at breakfast, a nice change. Today's soup was some kind of pork, maybe egg, and noodle, once again good. We asked if they would make ice coffee, very good again.

Get pretty much packed up as we are on the move again. I had paid for a transfer in advance while home, another rookie move, would have been less to wait until we were here.

Time to explore a bit more and look for interesting pictures. The flowers are absolutely beautiful, lots of people getting pictures taken again.  The posing is quite funny for us, but so common here.

Stopped for a ginger ice tea for a break, lots of real ginger. They had a little garden out back with a fish pond, very pretty and peaceful.  We were looking at the fish and this meant that we wanted to see them fed I guess, there were quite a few fish in that little pond.

I bought a pair of linen shorts. We have walked by one shop many times and I have looked at them, the woman there keeps saying same price as yesterday,  I remember you.  Today I try another shop with the same shorts but they don't have my size in the color I want. One minute, she runs across the street about 2 shops down and grabs a pair off the rack. Andre and I are a little embarrassed that it is the shop we have spoken to many times. Our new vendor says that is OK, she is my friend.  Is it really OK, we will never know. Shorts bought and I'm glad we are leaving soon.

Back to the hotel, check out and waiting for transfer to pick us up.

Driver plays elevator music, that only helps with my tendency to sleep in the car. Watch scenery 15 minutes,  sleep15 minutes, wake up 15 more minutes and we have reached our next destination of Da Nang.  Well, we are not typically big city people but the view from the 21st floor we are staying on may be really nice later.  Had a pizza at the pool bar on the 23rd floor, we were the only ones there.  Bartender said after 4 it will be really busy when everyone comes back from their tours.

Undecided how to spend our time here, will have to do a bit more reading and make some decisions.  Beach looks really nice from 21 floors up, definitely will need to explore there.  Also we are here the 3 nights of the week that the dragon acts up on the bridge, wonder if I'll be dragged out 3 times for that.

Walked a couple of KM of the beach, it is a nice walking beach, the sand near the water is hard and the water is warm. The beach set up for chairs and umbrellas does not seem as nice as nha Trang or An Bang, but we will investigate that more later in our stay.   Forgot to mention that at An Bang beach the staff at the restaurant come around with a feather duster and dust the sand off your chair and feet for you. Wonder if I can train Andre to do this at home , we have seen vendors go by with their bikes full of feather dusters, I'd be happy to buy him one.

The water is quite rough and red flags are out on the beach except for small sections with yellow flags that have life guards patrolling.  These small sections are now full of Viatnamese enjoying since the sun is not so strong.  One lifeguard stays on the beach with a whistle, seems like their main job is to make sure everyone stays within the buoys  that mark the yellow sections. A second lifeguard is out at the end of the buoys in the water bobbing around in one of those circular fishing boats.  We sit on the beach under a palm tree and watch for quite a while. Two older women go into the water in their dresses holding hands, we are trying to decide which one is going to be taken down by waves first. They are having a great time, they both seem to be taking turns getting knocked down. Very few women wear Bathing suits, mostly just shorts and t-shirts,  but I think this is the first time we have seen dresses.

Off to walk some more and there is a commotion on the beach up ahead. As we get closer we realize it is a huge fishing net on shore, somehow Andres shoes end up in my hands and he is gone. We don't know exactly how this all works, but fish are being pulled out of the net and sorted in some manner. Lots of fisherman around and what looks like a couple of chefs from the seafood restaurants that are on the beach here, very fresh fish on the menu tonight.

Ended our walk on the beach with the purchase of some apple ciders at what must turn into a night club later. Starting at 830pm the prices of beverages double.

Back to the room for much needed showers and time to find some supper.  We head along the street to where the dragon bridge will be doing its thing later.

So many huge seafood restaurants! We are going to have to take the plunge one night and try one. We both love seafood but even seeing these places right now is turning my stomach a little,  I still think this is what Andre got so sick in Nha Trang from.

Settled on a Thai restaurant about .5 way to the dragon. I love Pad Thai so looking forward to that. Someone told me to try papaya salad as well, so salad ordered , pad Thai and green curry. Papaya salad arrives, wow this is hot. Waitress comes over and tells us it is better with sticky rice,  off she goes for that. It is really good except both of us are trying to avoid the little hot red peppers.
Andres green curry arrives, it is huge and very good. My pad Thai, well it never arrived, waved the waitress over and she went running into the kitchen, at this point we had so much food no need for more so canceled pad Thai.  Time to move on, at the cash we can see this is a place bus tours stop, they have  long list of reservations for the next 2 days busses.

Off to dragon bridge. We have to walk up on the bridge, and check out both sides of the bridge for best spots . We are about 30 minutes early, we see that most tourists are on one side of the bridge, but those kindergarten chairs are on the other side, off we go. Everyone seems to have a juice, maybe you need to have a juice to sit in these chairs, Andre is sent to purchase juice and comes back with a huge glass of juice, no one else has this huge glass of juice. What did you get, I don't know I just pointed and this is what I got. Pretty sure it is pineapple juice, and now I am as comfortable as can be sitting in these kindergarten chairs. Jack fruit lady comes by, yes please, we share with the couple beside us, then they want to share with us whatever it is they are eating, hard pass on that, I hope we weren't rude.

Show starts, a few times dragon breathes fire. After fire part has ended dragon spits water, it is a lot of water, people on the bridge would be a little wet. Show over, traffic let through on the bridge again and time to set off for home. This show happens 3 nights a week, we will be here all 3 nights, one visit here is enough for me.  Hoping Andre got some good pictures or we may be back.

Walking home so many places full of people eating.  Still not used to eating and all the garbage thrown on the floor. Had a good laugh at one place with empty beer cases on the floor and a lot of cans on the floor, still not sure how everything is kept track of.

Back to the hotel, still totally undecided what to do tomorrow.  There are lots of tour options from here, just that nothing has jumped out yet.  Maybe we will dream up something in our sleep.
