Off to Curacao

Celebrating our 35th anniversary this month, we are off to Curacao for one week.  We are in search of a new snorkel favourite destination and hoping this will be it!  Curacao is part of the ABC Islands. The islands are very close together, and one day we may do a combination trip.
A - Aruba, known for beautiful white sandy beaches and caters to Americans
B- Bonaire, very small and known for its diving
C-Curacao, known for snorkeling and visited more by Europeans - especially the Dutch

Joey is taking a flight from Calgary with westjet and we will be in Toronto at the same time, then in Curacao within 30 minutes of arrival from Air Canada.  Ron and Nancy are along for the fun too, can't wait for a great week!

Started with a very early morning, picked up Ron and Nancy for our 5:30AM flight.  Sitting in the airport Nancy realizes one of their carry on bags has been left behind, oops.  No time to go back. Can any of our friends guess who left the bag behind?  Luckily Andre always carries way to much camera gear with him, so Nancy was able to borrow a camera for the week.

Arrival worked out fine, we were getting off our plane when we saw Joeys landing.  Car rental at D&D Car rental, then we are off for about a 45 minute drive to our rentals on the west side of the Island.  We have chosen this side because this is where the beaches are for snorkeling.  An easy drive, with a first stop to pick up some groceries to get us started.

We are staying at the Marazul Dive Resort in Westpunt.

There is about 25 duplex condos with most of them being waterfront like the one we are staying in. The resort is gated with a keypad to get in.

It is very hot when we arrive, quick unpack our groceries, and off to jump in the water.  There is no beach where we are, but ladders/steps into the water where we are on a 30 foot wall to explore.  Today it was just a quick dip to cool off, can't wait to get out exploring and snorkeling more tomorrow!

Cleaned up after swim, then drove to Sol Food restaurant that is run by someone named Sunshine.  We had made a reservation  as this place gets rave reviews and is only open on weekends. Fun trying to find the place, but lucked out in the end.   I think we were mostly disappointed with the meal, no fresh fish.  We were given a long writeup of things to do around Westpunt by Sunshine, Ron decided it was easiest to read upside down or something like that.

Off to bed, everyone is exhausted, a long travel day and the heat knocks you out.
