St Louis de Kent NB, May 2021

We rented a place in St Louis for 2 nights with March & Mary-Sue.

We got a 2 bedroom place in a barn that got converted, a great place and would stay here again.

L ' Ancrage B&B and Cottages

Hoping to get lobster for supper at the Coop in St Louis as the are fishing a few kilometers further north but no such luck.

St Louis is also where the Acadian flag was born. They have a very large one floating over the village. It is 60 feet by 30 feet in size.

We decided to do a 20KM bike loop starting at Ryan's Beach.  We did a stop at Kelly's Beach where Wendy we saw Luc and his family, he's one of Wendy's ex co-worker

Boardwalk to Kelly's beach

Needed after a long bike ride

This morning the weather is not great for hiking/biking.  I convince the rest of the gang to go see the Escuminac Lighthouse. When I was young I had fished a few times in Escuminac.   It is a 50 KM drive from St Louis to Escuminac. After that you drive about 5 km on a dirt road with a many holes.

On the way there you drive by Jackie Vautour homestead (Picture 1).   When they created the park in the 1960, he refused to be expropriated.   They demolished his house but he still refused to leave.  My father used to stop and give him some mackerel when we used to drive by and we had some.

The weather cleared up, so we decided to walk on the beach. Very rocky here as it is a point of land

Many lobster fishing boats here and not too far from shore

Lots of fishing debris on the shoreline

No Lobster but lots of wind

We stopped at the Escuminac wharf to see the memorial for the fisherman who lost their lives in a big storm in 1959.  This bot would have been typical of the kind they had back then. This was the worst maritime disaster ever.  35 fisherman in the area died in the storm.

We also picked up fresh lobster for supper.  Yummm!

We headed into Baie St-Anne for lunch.  We stopped at a restaurant. The building it was in used to be the Yvon Durelle Club.  Yvon was a light-heavyweight boxer. He was a Canadian champion in that division and fought Archie Moore for the world championship title and almost won.

On the way back to St Louis, we saw a mother bear and her 2 cubs in the Kouchibouguac NP.

We also stopped in the park for a 12 KM hike

Wendy is not happy

Back at our place

We had 1/2 of the barn.

Day 3

Today, we did a 15 KM bike loop in the Kouchibouguac NP
