This morning the wind has let down and it is much more comfortable walking along the water. We did the long side and ended up at the market where we planned on just buying strawberries for breakfast. We ended up buying a lot more. We bought a burned ricotta cheese. One of the workers selling it spoke good English and we had talked to him a couple of days ago. He showed us how they eat it with olive oil and oregano. We got to sample it that way and it was very good. We also bought fresh sardines, peppers, bread, artichokes, oregano and a couple of things

We had planned on just walking around the island at lunchtime but once we crossed over the first bridge we decided to explore the mainland shoreline, We ended up near a park where I knew there was a grocery store nearby that the apartment owner had recommended. Since it was easy for Wendy to make it home, walk straight down this street and you will be on a bridge to the island. Wendy says she never wants to stays somewhere big unless there is either a wall like Lucca was or an island like we have here. She make it home ok as once she is on the bridge, she has no problem finding the apartment.
Found the block where the grocery store is advertised in the windows but I don't see it. On one side I find a gourmet grocery store but that is not it. They have lots of choices for a bit of everything. May return here as well to get some specialty items. The grocery store is actually on the back of the block. It is the nicest one I have found so far and is about 20 minutes walk from the apartment. Filled a bag with stuff we needed including a bottle of wine and it was 17 Euros. Prices are much better than on the island.

Scooters are driven almost as much by girls than the boys although the boys drive a bit faster. Sometimes too fast for us |

The view when you reach the street in front of our place. Turn left at the mirror on the left and our apartment is down the little alley, behind a locked gate, up one flight of stairs. Think you can find it Ron and Nancy? |

Fresh Sardine Sandwich for lunch for me (Andre) and a glass of fermented red grape juice. Wendy stuck to her salad |
Before supper we went for another walk in the small streets. It was too chilly to walk along the water

Back at the apartment, I made a spaghetti sauce to go with the fresh noodles that I got at the supermarket earlier today.
We then watch American idol and the voice video on YouTube.
What André is not going to meet us at the bus station?? Ha..
ReplyDeleteThey have horse at IGA in Dieppe. I've thought of trying it but don't know how to cook it.
ReplyDeleteThings appear to be a lot more expensive over there compared to here. We pay between 2-3 euros for wine.
ReplyDeleteAre you really paying over 17 euros for wine over there?
ReplyDelete17 Euros for a full bag of groceries, including the bottle of wine. There are wines for 17 Euro but we are paying around 2-3 per bottle as well. Nothing has been expensive here compared to home except filling up the car with gas!
