Hill of Down to Maynooth

Our last day of biking.  There is a little bit of rain, but we really want to get one more day of biking in.  Only 33 km left until the end of the Greenway, which is right in Maynooth.  They are hoping to have the trail completed all the way to Dublin one day.  We get a little wet to start but the sun did eventually come out and we had a great last day of biking.

We met up with Robert in Maynooth and dropped off our bikes and collected our luggage then caught a train back to Dublin. It is so easy to find our hotel for the night, it is right by the information center where we were the first day.  A little rain starts again and we stay in for while before we head out to find somewhere for supper. We end up eating at a nice pub, head off to bed early.  4:45 alarm to catch the bus to the airport.  Uneventful trip home, thought there might be a delay due to someone putting their passport in their luggage, but it all worked out OK.  No lineups anywhere.

Home safe after another great trip.  Wendy took 3 weeks to recover from her cold, it was nasty.  Time to work on plans for next trip.

Hill of Down

Wake up to already nasty weather and contact Robert and tell him we don’t want to bike at all today.  We had kind of made contingency plans with him anyway, the weather was so bad he wasn’t surprised when we called.  He has arranged for the luggage to be picked up, we tell him we will go with the luggage and bikes.  Wendy has also picked up a nasty cold , so rest will not hurt.  Our driver shows up so early we haven’t even had breakfast yet.  Eat some toast and tea quickly and we are off to Hill on Down.  Our driver has a job to take people to Garth Brooks later so he is short on time.

Arrive at Hill on Down and we have a little problem finding the B&B with our driver. Turns out our B&B is actually a full apartment with a full kitchen.  The fridge is stocked with everything you would want to cook breakfast.  Since we will be spending most of the day indoors here it works out perfect.  We watch some TV for the first time on holiday, read books and just relax for most of the rainy day.  We watch a British cooking show that you must cook in your home for a dinner party, then you move on to the other peoples home for a dinner party, then vote to see who has the best party.  Had a few laughs.

Rain finally stops in the afternoon and we find a loop walk along the canal and then some country roads which take us back into town.

Town (not really) consists of 1 pub, that is it, and a few houses.  The pub has pizza, so that is supper for us tonight.  Didn't get to visit with the locals here, pub was busy and we were at a table, not the bar itself.  It was a different atmosphere than the other pubs we have been to where we felt so welcomed.  2 small pizzas later and we are off for the short walk before heading home to our apartment.
