Started
off the day with going to find the tourist information office in
Sorrento to get maps and find out what is happening in town. A nice
walk through part of old town and we find the office. Happens to be
an exhibit of carillons on the second floor so checked that out. On
the way we also stopped at our first lemon shop, lemon shops are
everywhere here. We sampled limoncello, lemon cookies, lemon
candies, pistachio cream, and about 5 more different samples of
liquor they sell. This is all before 11 AM, and we have lots and
lots of these stores we can try we discover.
After
picking up maps we walked down the many steps to Marine Grande. This
marina is where there are still lots of fishing boats. Men were
working on their nets, something Andre is always very happy to see.
Walked to the end of the beach/wharf area and visited a nice hotel
restaurant that had a beautiful deck to sit out and enjoy the view.
It is a lovely spot, but all those stairs would not make it my
favourite place to stay.
Back
to the apartment for a quick lunch and then we are off for our
walking tour we booked. We had booked for this morning but they
cancelled because of lack of participants, then re-booked for this
afternoon and the guide did not show up. I think we have got this
city figured out now, but we usually like these free walking tours so
were sorry to miss out.
Back
up to old town and we walk across town to go back down to beach side
for Marina Piccola. This is where the ferries leave from to go to
Amalfi coast and Capri. Lots and lots of stairs again. Explored
here a little but there is not much action as we are really off
season, you can see where lots of restaurants and decks will pop up
soon over the water. We did discover that there is an elevator,
which we took advantage of to get back up into old town, so took
advantage of that 1.20Euro well spent. Now we also know and easy way
to get down to that level with our luggage later in the week.
Stopped
in a few more shops and found a place that is offering a cooking
class tomorrow afternoon. Back to the apartment and we decide we
will do the cooking class tomorrow afternoon, WhatsApp the cooking
class and couldn't get our credit card to work to book. Back out to
go and book in person. Decide time for another walk and explore some
more. Find a yummy gelato spot and just spend the rest of the
afternoon exploring around. Beautiful leather purses, lots of
leather shops.
Back
to the apartment and make pasta for supper. Too tired to go out
again, cribbage board out. Looking forward to tomorrow.
