Fishing trip

Early breakfasts this morning as 4 of us are going fishing, Oliver from team Germany 2, the dad and his son who is 12.  We are booked for 4 hours starting at 8. The boat is about 15 minutes late;  I guess the owner is on Belize time.  We quickly get going and go on the backside of the island.  We stop for gas. And then we quickly go to our first stop.  It is a channel in the reef about 30 feet deep.  Getting lots of bites but the group only get 3 fish.  We are there for about 2 hours.  The captain gives us 2 choices.  Go outside the reef or trawl for barracuda.  We opt for option 2 since option one is what we just did but in deeper water.  While getting ready to change location, the boy turns green because the boat is rocking.  I think 5 more minutes and breakfast would have gone overboard. He gets better when the boat gets moving again.  We trawl with 2 fishing line taking turns for about 1 hour. No luck catching a big one. We stop at one more stop where the fishes are very aggressive. 2 or 3 nibbles and the bait is gone. Get a few in the boat but they were too small.  The group manages to get 2 keepers. We cruise back to the pier at high speed and arrive back at 2PM. Did not catch much but everyone had a great time.  This price was only $50 per person.

We stop and order shrimps on the BBQ and get ice cream afterwards.  We go for a quick swim and a cold beer at the split to cool off.  Stay there until 4PM and visit with some of the group as they are there as well.  This is very much the town hangout.

2 of our group are divers and they went to the blue hole this morning.  They had to be ready for 5:30AM as it is 2 hour boat ride to the site.  It is a place that was made famous by Jacques Cousteau.  It is a hole that is about 1000 feet deep.  They dove to 120 feet and they said it was amazing.

The group is doing a sunset cruise with rum punch included leaving the dock at 5:30.  It is only $25. We are 15 minutes late leaving, no surprise.  It is a beautiful sunset and the rum punch is being consumed in great quantities.  They put up the sail and we circle the island.  This was supposed to be a 2 hour cruise but only get back at 9PM and everyone is feeling the effect of the punch.

We go straight to the restaurant since the reservation was for 8PM for our last dinner as a group. One of the divers goes straight to bed as she is exhausted.  The restaurant is cooking the fish we caught. The 4 fisherman sits together.  The fish is delicious and we only have to pay for the veggies and rice. The tour leader skips on the meal and stick to drinking water and I only have 1 beer with my meal as we all had our shares of the punch earlier. One lady from Canada comes and tells us she is next door where the music is.

We leave the restaurant around 11. Her husband, Oliver from fishing and me try to find the bar where she is.  There no bar around the corner.  We hear her laughing on the second floor of a restaurant that the front door is closed.  I go in anyway.  It happens that the owner is from Lethbridge Alberta.  He has worked all over the world and is very interesting.  His restaurant has been rated one of the best on the island. I check the menu out, not cheap but very interesting.  I will need to try it out next couple of days.   He makes his signature drink for Oliver and a margarita for the lady.  I order a shot of 1800 tequila.  He free pours it.  We stay and chat for a while and a second round of drinks.  We get back at the hotel at 1AM
