Cabo San Lucas

Today starts off in a very bad way with Kyle arriving in our room to tell us that his Mom needs help from Uncle André because Liam has hurt himself. Liam had opened up the cabin and the draft closed it back over the top of his toe. He wouldn't let his Mom see it, she wasn’t sure if he needed stitches. So André, Liam and Joey make a trip to the Dr.  Liam was very excited this morning because the Carnival Splendor is in port beside us and he has a friend on this ship.  The excitement has turned to tears, poor kid, no stitches, but he has made quite a mess of his toe,  and will be limping around for a while I think.

There are 4 ships in port today.  I don't think this is a good sign. Tender day – what a mess.  Cabo does not have a pier, so you take little boats back and forth to the dock from where we are anchored in the bay.  We are anchored at a beautiful spot, a great view of the famous arch that you see in pictures of Cabo from our balcony.  We go to the pool to get our tender ticket. We are given number 14  and they have so far only called to number 7 in one hour. So we know we have a bit of a wait in front of us.

We go back up to our cabin to sit and wait because we can hear them calling numbers from the room intercom.  We can hear the cruise director from the balcony above us as she has a very distinctive British accent. We try to bribe her with tequila to call our number next but it doesn't work. We are forced to wait for our turn.  Over all it probably took about an hour from when we picked up the ticket until we were called, but it was very trying on all of our patience.

Once on shore we didn't have any plans except going to a beach.  Cabo is a very Americanized port, looked more like what I would expect Miami or Cancun to be like.  There are all the high end shopping places here, and there are a couple of little markets around so you do get a bit of flavour of Mexico.

Where we get off the tender is quite a large pier that is filled with many many beautiful yachts.  Lots and lots of money here.  We walk quite away along the pier and then decide we should take a water taxi to the beach.  We get in the taxi and it takes us a couple of miles away to quite a nice beach. No pier here do you have to jump off the end of the boat, not too hard getting off but I spend the rest of the day worrying how I am going to get back on!

We end up spending the afternoon at a beautiful 5 star resort enjoying their lounge chairs on the beach.  We bought drinks and some food during the afternoon, and spent some time in the water as well.  The waves are quite big, and lots of fun to play in. Unfortunately they break right on shore, so it is tough to get in and out of the water.

There we one gorgeous big yacht anchored right off the shore that even had a helicopter on it. We have heard various rumours as to whose yacht it is. One of the rumours we heard was Tiger Woods, could be right, but didn't his wife get the yacht. There was a little boat going back and forth to shore picking up girls in bikinis and taking them back to the yacht. It will be fun to look up online when we have a connection again to see whose it is.

We pay our rather large bar tab, thanks to Joey drinking expensive fancy drinks and then head off to catch our water taxi back. We had pre-arranged and paid for both ways.  Problem was we weren't exactly sure where we would be picked up. (though André will tell you he knew exactly where it was).

We had about 1.5 hours before the last tender back to the ship so we knew even if we had to walk back we could make it, though poor Liam was struggling with his toe.  Liam did not even go in the water to play in the waves, and it was hot even sitting on the shore.  On the walk back to the pickup spot we saw many many spring break kids having a great time, not sure that Kyle or Liam will ever be allowed here at spring break.

So, our water taxi arrives, kids get in then Joey tries, the waves take her out and she is in the water.   The driver tells her to try the other side, and she discovers the roll on method, which I am very happy to use as well.  Kyle is not very impressed with both his Mother and his Aunt by now, but I am on and that is all that counts.  The taxi takes us back to the pier where we catch the tender boat back to the ship, at least this time we don't have to jump off onto shore.

Back on board and time to get ready for supper.  We get a daily fun times guide delivered to our room with all the postings of show times, dining room times, really anything you need to know about the ship and what time it is scheduled.  Well today in the fun times the dress code is cruise casual for dinner, but there is an extra NOT tonight, usually it says no bathing suits, no flip flops etc. But tonight they have added no bathrobes.  I guess someone has pushed the casual dress code a little too far.  I think after dinner we just rode the elevator a little with Liam this time, he thought this was wonderful, then another early night.
