Travel and Andalou Festivals

A day in Avignon today. Started off with going to visit some exhibits from the travel show that is in town for 4 days I think. There are lots of films to see, but all in French so we are taking a pass on that. We did see some beautiful pictures from all over the world at one of the exhibits, you were given a piece of paper to vote on your 3 favourite, it was hard to pick.

On our way to the market a man from Bristol asked us where we were from, we spent quite a while talking to him about travelling around France. He is just retired and is looking for a place to buy in France, will not be Avignon, too expensive. He is staying with friends here, his wife joining him next week for a couple of weeks. Fun talking to him and his plans.

Market done, definitely more expensive than the grocery stores. Monday there is a local market coming to town for the first time since we have been here, if we are around will be fun to go to that. So many things are closed on Mondays in France it may not be the best day to travel, we shall see.

Off to the little bar/restaurant outside the entry to the Popes Gardens for a beer and spritz this afternoon. Weather has changed and it is windy and cold, so even though we planned to sit outside, only shade available and it was cold so inside we go for our beverage break.

Home to get warmer jackets and we are off to the Andalusia parade that was from 4 to 5pm down the main street. Very very few people out watching it. It started with 2 men leading two big cows/bulls, then about 30 dancers in very pretty traditional dress, and ended with 6 horses. The parade stopped periodically for the dancers to perform. Near the end the horses also had a little performance, but they were not very cooperative. Luckily no one was hurt, wondered if one of them might rush the crowd to escape.

Picked up some wine and cheese to take home since we were right by the market, dropped our purchases off at home then went out to the main square to watch more Flamenco dancing and music. They had a stage set up but still hard to see so we didn't last too long.

A pretty quiet day, but we are both a little tired from all the walking and travelling around. Still not sure what we will be doing tomorrow. Did stop in at the Tourist information to see if there is anything special happening for Easter, nope, it certainly isn't Spain where we have seen some great processions and music over the years. We will need to find a Easter Service and see how that is next week.

Todays steps 13,000 or 8KM very flat walking 7 floors.

On the way to the travel exhibit

The line up was too big to see the pictures, so we went for a short loop.
Great reflection but you can not see the ramparts

All the people are gone to a movie or something
