Haut Cagnes-Sur-Mer

 Haut Cagnes-Sur-Mer

Today we took the train to Cagnes-Sur-Mer, a short train ride from Nice. From the train station found tourist information and where you take a free little bus ride up to the beautiful castle and tiny alleys and streets of Haut Cagnes-Sur-Mer. Very very few tourists around. At this time of year there are very few little shops open, actually at any time of year there would be very few tourist shops open as there are very few here. Definitely not as touristy as some of the other medieval towns we have visited, we all liked that. A nice castle on top that was once owned by the Girmaldi's, because they were switching over exhibitions it was a 2Euro entrance instead of 4. The view on top of the tower of the castle was well worth the admission. Beautiful views of the mountains in the distance that are now snow covered after all the rain we had. After we finished walking the little streets we found where the bus was running from to go back down, but a diversion for construction and the bus stop was closed, easier to just walk down than backtrack to the other side of town to get the bus. It was not a far walk, but a steep downhill walk!

Back to town and pick up sandwiches and fries at a chicken rotisserie place to eat in the park, then off to the train station. Train stopped for quite a while at the airport stop, something wrong with the doors closing. We hope when Joey leaves in 2 days all our transportation issues leave with her.

Back in Nice and walk over to the Russian Church to visit inside. It is 5Euro to fully enter and you get to see a documentary and a small museum in the crypt, read into this Wendy gets to nap for a bit while the documentary is on. From the outside it looks so big, we were all surprised how small it was once we got inside. It is the largest Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia.

From here we decided to pick up some things for dinner, quick stop at the apartment with groceries then off to happy hour.

Walked along the Promenade Des Anglais after happy hour, they have started taking down the grandstands and the ferris wheel from Carnival. The sea is much quieter today after the rough seas yesterday.

Total steps 22,650 or 14.25 km with many ups and down.
