Day 2 Buenos Aires Walking tours

Breakfast is included on our stay so start off with a decent breakfast then a short walk waiting for the place around the corner that gives the "blue" rate for exchange to open at 10AM.  We exchanged $350.00 USD, the biggest bill they have in Argentinan Pesos 1,000.00 which is the equivalent of around $3.00, we had stacks of money to deal with now.

we debated about doing a hop on hop off bus tour this morning, but decided to go on a free walking tour instead.  Lots of people show up for the tour, but they break us into Spanish and English speaking tours, so it is much more manageable.  A great introduction to the city and we discover some places we will come back and visit on our own.

Combo packs with liquor lol. Vodka and 2 juices is around $20 Canadian if you change your money at the bank. If you use a cambio and get the blue rate , it's about $12.

Lack of time this morning so instead of subway took a taxi to the starting point for our Recoleta walking tour at the Teatro Colon.  You can book a spot online, but all your really need to do is show up.

School bus

Lots of dog walkers.  One guide told us that there is a law about how often a dog needs to be walked

Avenida 9 de Julio, widest street in the world, 23 lanes wide

A stop at a park to hear about when Argentina separated from Spain

One of the first of many many many soccer jerseys we will see, mostly with 10 on them.

This tower was donated by the UK

A washroom break at a small bakery, took advantage to try some delicacies

Falkland Islands war memorial, or in Argentina Malvinas.  Interesting to hear about the war from the Argentinian point of view.

Homeless shower

Morning tour ended outside Recoleta cemetery at this most amazing rubber tree.  Notice the supports that they have added.

Found lunch in the Recoleta area as we are doing afternoon tour of the cemetery

Famous Café La Biela right outside the cemetery

Recoleta Cemetery tour.  This is from the same free walking tour company except for this tour it costs $10 USD plus admission to the cemetery.  Our guide was amazing, the stories she told us really made the tour.  The cemetery has gone through different transformations over the years, and is still in use, many of the sites are in great need of repair.

The only place there was a bit of a line up, Eva Peron
