On our way to Marsala

Another great breakfast at our B&B this morning, we are leaving today to move further West along the coast of Sicily to Marsala.  Nancy and Wendy went to pick up the car so Andre didn't have to lug the big suitcase too far.

First stop this morning was at a reserve called Torre Salsa.  We read that if it was wet it would be rough going, and a sign into the reserve said the same.  About 1km down the dirt road it was decided our car was not fit for the road, we pulled over, parked and decided to walk.  We didn't get too far walking until all of our shoes were getting very muddy so decided to put an end to this hike.  Back to the car, wiped as much muck off our shoes as we could.  GPS sent us along a dead end road, about face and we are back on our way.

Next stop was in Caltabellotta, where we had read it there are beautiful views from a castle.  Just the drive up here was very pretty.  You are supposed to be able to see 21 villages from the top.  We parked the car, and went into a museum to see if they had a map.  Free entrance to the museum, quite a museum, not sure how to explain it, but I'm glad we didn't have our grandkids with us.

The town and the peak we will climb once we get to the town

It is starting to rain a bit and it is terribly windy so we decide to walk around town a little, then head back to climb up the castle.  Unfortunately both of the churches are closed near the castle.  The sun is out a bit so we decide it is time to go up if we are going to do it.

It is so extremely windy and quite a few stairs to climb, but so worth the effort when we got to the top.

Next off we went to Sciacca.  This is a fishermen's city, with a huge port, lots of fishing boats and very few tourists.  We had a good lunch of ham and cheese Arancini, everyone else had wine, and we finally sampled gelato the way they eat it in Sicily, scooped into a brioche bun, and when you finally eat enough of the ice cream you squeeze it into an ice cream sandwich. Another thing we have checked off our list to try.  We were in this bar while a lot of men came in on their break and ordered gelato, I think we only saw one in a cone, everyone else had ice cream.

Time to explore Sciacca a little, this is a city know for ceramics in the South West.  Lots of starts with ceramic tiles, very pretty.  Explored the port of course for Andre to take fisherman pictures.  Walked up many more steps for some great views over the port, and to see the Duomo.

I wanted to take some home for supper but no

Enough travelling for today and we head off for our final destination of Marsala where we will spend 2 nights.  This is a keycode apartment which is great, we don't have to meet up with anyone to let us in. Bad part is our street is being paved so we drop the guys off and Nancy and I go and find parking.

Off for a walk before supper, this is a much prettier city than the ones we went through that are on the way here.  It will be fun to do more exploring tomorrow.

Went to supper at a small restaurant where we were the only people there except for one other man.   good meal, with some good wine.  The owner gave us some Marsala wine at the end, it was a fun night.

Andre and I needed to walk a bit more to get in our 20,000 steps so did a little more exploring in town.  It is very quiet, probably because it is a Monday night, we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
