Lubeck Germany

Went to the dining room for breakfast but it was a little crazy so headed to the buffet which was not too bad. I think about 1/2 of the boat are getting off here today and 1/2 the boat will be new people tonight. What a lot of work it must be to keep everyone sorted.

Today we took the organized tour to Lubeck. It was a bus tour that took a little over 1 hour from the port to get there.

Our tour guide started the day with us so we first heard a lot about Kiel, which was interesting. I think this is where Canada has ordered its new submarines from. Lubeck is an interesting city. It was only about 20% bombed by the allies in WWII so lots of old buildings still standing. Interesting that it was bombed in retaliation for the Germans bombing Coventry.

We had a walking tour for about 2.5 hours then about another hour that we spent on our own walking around before the bus ride back to the ship.

Our tour guide left as at the train station in Lubeck to return to his home in Hamburg while most of us slept on the bus ride home. Another beautiful sunny day.

Everyone showed up at our table for the last night. Again lots of laughs. We were really lucky to have such a great group. Facebook addresses exchanged, who knows we may all travel again together some day.

Salt houses. Where salt was stored. A very valuable item in the past as salt was the best way to preserve food

Lots of narrow streets

Piece of the Berlin wall

It has six church towers surpassing 100 meters tall. The most of any city in the world. It is known as the city of 7 towers.

St Jacobi church. 1 of 2 very old organs

The pipe organ was constructed by Peter Lasur in 1504.. It is inside of St Jacobi church.

The seaman hall built in 1535. Also a great example of how they created fake facade on the top of the building to make them look taller and wider, and therefore more wealthy

Little alley way between 2 streets, This town has lots of them

Historic building hiding on the little pathways

The church was hit by a bomb but was rebuilt, the church bells from the tower are left on display

St Mary church. The height of the towers, including the weather vanes, is 124.95 metres (409.9 ft) and 124.75 metres (409.3 ft), respectively. It has the tallest brick vault in the world, the height of the central nave being 38.5 metres (126 ft).
