After
breakfast we got off the ship right away to do some exploring. Just
stepping off the ship is wow. By far the prettiest port we have been
in. We are parked right at the end of a fjord, spectacular. We are
out early so very very few people walking around. We walked along
the piers and through the very very tiny part of town where we are docked, it is mostly still set up for tourists. The town itself is
about 3 km away, but they are certainly ready and waiting for us.
I
had booked excursions for this port outside the ships excursions
back in May, thank goodness we did because things were really booked
up, I know some people were not about to get what they wanted outside
the ship, maybe if they would have paid the absolutely crazy prices
the ship was charging, but not on your own.
We
started the day with a electric boat ride down the most beautiful
fjord. We are so lucky, no rain again today and some blue sky. We
stand outside at the front of the boat for the entire time, it is
really cold, hats, gloves and winter jackets are needed but so
beautiful we didn't want to move. We pass some small farms,
beautiful waterfalls, and of course we are close to everything as we
are travelling through a fjord. We pull up close to one waterfall
which is beautiful, really a special trip that took about 2 hours.
From the end of this fjord we took a van ride back to the town of
Flam where we quickly got back onboard for some lunch before our next
excursion. Pizza at the buffet, it is not so busy today as most
people are out and about, we were also surprised just how many people
were out eating at the stalls set up close to the ship.
After
lunch we have booked the Flam train ride. We were doing it out and
back, about 1 hour each way, again with pretty views but this morning
was even better. The train was really busy on the way up, the last 2
cars were reserved for tours from the ship. At the top the last 2
cars emptied and we switched cars to the last car with just a couple
of other people in it, it was so much better. Some windows opened so
you were able to get good pictures. We have a 5 minute stop at a
waterfall where we can all get out for some pictures.
Back
to the port of Flam and we are back on the ship. No one joins us for
supper tonight, it is much quieter in the dining room. Maybe more
are choosing the buffet, or specialty restaurants. The buffet is
absolutely crazy most times, we are avoiding it when possible.
Because we were only 2 at our table for 6 dinner was super fast, we
were done in just over 1 hour. We caught the last 20 minutes of the
show in the theatre, I still wasn't able to stay awake for that much!
Days are long and busy. Nice and calm tonight, no seasick medicine
required. I think I have taken it twice so far. I haven't felt sick
at all, but I have picked up cold that really sucks, hopefully no
worse tomorrow.
Tomorrow
is a sea day, then our final port day is in Kiel, Germany. We have
decided to book an excursion through the ship as it isn't too easy to
get to transportation into the city of Kiel, we will be going to
visit Ludbeck Germany, which is about 1.5 hours away by bus.
Hopefully it is a good day, looking forward to it.
