Kronborg castle in Helsingor Norway

Spent Wendy's birthday visiting a castle. We took a 45 minute train ride to catch a 20 minute ferry from Sweden to Denmark to visit Kronborg Castle, aka Hamlet castle. It is thought that this castle was the inspiration for Shakespeare for the Elsinore castle in Hamlet. It was made a UNESCO property in 2000. There is no evidence that Shakespeare ever visited here.

On weekends there are little acts going on with people dressed up every 30 minutes or so. I think we caught 3 of these performances. Lots of laughs in our favourite one which was do a play in 5 minutes of the real play Hamlet that takes 4 hours, so much fun! I am really glad we waited for the weekend to go, these little acts really did add to the day.

Lots of fun exploring the different rooms that are open for visiting. The castle was rebuilt after a fire in the 1600's, all was lost except for the chapel which was beautiful to see.

Took the ferry back from Denmark to Sweden and rushed to catch a fast train back to Malmo Sweden. Made the train and sat with a very interesting woman that I would imagine was close to legally blind. I have never seen glasses so think, especially now that eyeglasses have improved so much. They really did look like magnifying glasses in frames. Had a nice chat with her, she even showed us a picture of her cat. Andre helped her off at the stop before ours by taking her suitcase off the train for her. She was away for one night, had a large suitcase and 2 bags. She was missing her cat, we wondered if she had it stowed away somewhere in all her stuff.

Back to the hotel for what has become our usual tea/coffee and cookies in the library room in the hotel main floor. Nice chat with Joey and Susan with birthday wishes.

Next off to dinner for Swedish Meatballs, which we thought was a must do while we were here. Delicious little spot right around the corner from our hotel. Missed lunch today but had a very expensive delicious ice cream cone in the middle of the afternoon. Breakfasts are huge and delicious here so not really a need for lunch anyway.

Our last night in Sweden, really looking forward to starting our cruise tomorrow. Also looking forward to not setting an alarm tonight.

Steps 20,500 a slower day lol
