Oaxaca Walking tour

20,000 steps

Today we have signed up for a free walking tour, which only started at 11AM.

A little breakfast is provided at the place we are staying, they put it on a table outside our room in the courtyard at 8AM. We got moving around 9AM for breakfast, everything is covered up for us. Coffee, fruit and some different breads.

Off to go for a little walk before the walking tour. A walk for Andre always involves a market so we headed that way. Not too exciting as it is Sunday and lots of booths are not open, I think the market we are in is mostly a tourist market.

We also went back to a tour office that we visited last night to book 2 upcoming tours. Hopefully they will be OK, but these will be our last tours for this vacation, except hopefully some snorkeling in Puerto Morelos.

Head off to where we are meeting the free walking tour. A group of three young women from Denmark on their gap year, a young man from England, another young girl from Germany and a family of 4 from the US whose kids were done with the tour before it even started. The guy leading the tour is in his last year of high school, he did a great job. Lots of interesting facts, and he handed a sheet out to us all at the end with some of his suggestions on where to go to eat, and best ice cream spots which made Andre happy.

Tried to find 2 restaurants from the guys sheet to try a soup that is famous here Pozole. Both restaurants could not be found, will need to try again. Oaxaca is the food capital of Mexico, still lots of things to try.

Ended up just having Papa Chips for lunch, these are served in kind of a plastic bag with hot sauce poured on them. A messy treat. The other time we had them lime was squeezed on top as well.

Back to our room for a rest up in the heat of the day. It is so much hotter here than it was in Puebla or Mexico City. Plus so many tourists that look like tourists. No one in Mexico City was wearing shorts or sandals, here many many are. Tomorrow we will dress more like tourists.

Back out to the square as we were told on our tour that there is something going on at 6PM every night. It could be a dance, music, band, always something around the arts. We are a little early so head off to find something to eat and happen across a wedding party celebrating in the street. It was right outside a church so we assume they came from the church. There was a band with them and lots of dancing in the street, everyone was having a good time.

Settled on a cute little spot for supper, didn't realize until we sat down that they only served fish dishes. So, a type of fish tacos for both of us. Both were delicious, a great little find for supper.

Back to the square and music is still going on. It is way too loud, it is like there is a competition between the band set up at one of the square, another band across the square, and many of the higher end restaurants in the square have live music as well. Way too much going on.

An early night as we have an early day tomorrow off for a full day tour.
