Anthropology Museum Visit

 Anthropology Museum

Started the day off with scrambled eggs in wraps, with avocado and cheese that Andre made. We are going to be Mexican by the time this is over.

This morning we have decided to visit the anthropology museum. Mapped our way out with what we thought was going to be the metro like we did yesterday, but turns out we were on metro buses. We haven't figured out yet how to tell which side of the street to stand on to catch the bus, we just watch for the bus name and go by that, or ask someone if there is someone there. We had to do a transfer which was crazy busy, Joey would have hated it. Buses were coming right after one another, but we were about 20 in line waiting and only 5 or 6 could squeeze in each time. Many of them squeezed in the back door without paying. First time we have ever been on double decker city buses. No vendors on these buses, actually they were very very nice. They have dedicated lanes for the buses, but they still have to follow the traffic lights so it was a bit slow but still faster than the car traffic even with stops.

The anthropology museum is huge. 600 feet long and 500 feet wide and their exhibit on 3 floors. The center courtyard is 400 feet by 150 feet. We skipped the rooms that were not dedicated to Mexico and it was still a lot. A couple of hours was enough for us. I loved looking at all the handicraft things, such beautiful work. Lots and lots of people on tours, but it is so big that you were never with a crowd for very long.

After the museum we decided to walk through the park next to it and head to the Angel of Independence where we will be meeting a tour tomorrow. Found out exactly where we think we should meet. Then we decided to go for a walk through the Reforma neighborhood towards home. This is much more like a real neighborhood, more than where we are staying in Centro. This was one area we looked at staying in this trip, but we read so much after first time visitors should stay in Centro, that we stuck with that.

One thing I forgot to mention earlier, there are hardly any trash cans on the streets in the touristy areas. It was decided that they just become overfull and an eyesore, so instead they have all these men/women walking around with brooms and huge trash containers on wheels. The polite thing to do is ask them if you can add your trash to their container, at least that is what our guide told us the other day.

Lots of nice restaurants, so we decided on a break and had some lunch on our walk. I had a delicious tortilla soup, Andre had some kind of special Taco. Along with a beer for Andre and some Jamaica water for me and we are ready to continue our walk. Lots to look at along the way, crossed through a couple of parks, saw some beautiful homes, and some nice shops. At this point we decide we might as well continue with our walk and go all the way home as we only have about 2.5 km left. Along the way we stopped at an artisan market and a regular food market. Both are not too far from home, so we will return with fresh legs.

Much needed rest for the afternoon, our feet are tired! It has been beautiful weather for walking, it is hot only for an hour or 2 each day and you just find shade and it is fine, the rest of the day is perfect for walking around, we have both had 2 layers with us every day.

Lazy afternoon, caught up on emails, booked an Uber for tomorrow morning as we are worried how frequent public transport will be at 6:30am. We had topped up our metro cards this afternoon, so we will figure out public transport for coming home after our tour I am sure.

Neither of us are hungry so we head out to this huge bakery down the street from us, cheese bread for supper and split a donut. These things that looked like croissants for breakfast on the road tomorrow.

An early night tonight, looking forward to tomorrow.
