Museums day

Exploring around our area of town

14,300 steps

Today we did some exploring around our apartment, we are very much in the central downtown area, we will never ever cover everything there is to do here.

Our first stop was at a beautiful old library. We needed to give them our ID in order to go in, and they took Andres camera from him, no pictures allowed. We are not exactly sure what type of library it was, we were the only ones in there. Just a short visit. The woman that took our ID was very excited we were from Canada, I told her we have to be best friends now, we had a good laugh.

Next stop was at the Culture Palace. Once again a beautiful old building. There was no charge to visit here, and it was mostly examples of Creche and Christmas themes on display, mostly done in clay. They were very beautiful.

Next up we visited the Tile House which our guide told us about the other day on our walking tour. He said go in to eat, the atmosphere is a 10, but the food is about an 8. It really was beautiful inside, hard to imagine that at one time this was someone's house. There are 2 floors of dining rooms that were really big, each decorated very differently. We just walked around and explored, we may be back one day.

We finished our morning of visiting museums at the Post Office Palace. We had been at the door the other day, but today we decided to pay to be able to go in and explore. It was 100 pesos for the 2 of us to enter. One of the guards asked if we would like to take the elevator ride to the 3rd floor and work our way down, an old elevator that had been put back in when the building was restored to bring it back to more of its original plans. Lots of little rooms to explore with how mail was delivered in the past up until now. Maybe the most beautiful post office we have ever seen, and it is still a working post office.

Next up it is time to find something to eat. One of the men on our tour asked if we had been to the opera bar, so off we go as it is not far from the post office. We were just going to go in for a drink, but since it was 1:30 decided it was time for a meal. I had a delicious soup, and Andre had Mole Enchiladas. Both were delicious, and the setting was very pretty.

Lunch done we decide to visit the cathedral properly, we had just popped in for a quick visit during mass the other day. Today there was no mass so we were able to walk around more. There are many many beautiful old churches in this city.

Finally back to the apartment for a rest up, then we are out again to find the ADO bus ticket window to purchase tickets for our next city next week. The woman did not speak any English, and really didn't want to even try to help us, so forget it we will look after ourselves online.

Thought we may have a rooftop drink at a bar over the square, but the prices were ridiculous so back to the 2x1 bar on our street for a margarita. When it was bill time she said it was for us to each have 2 drinks, not 1 drink each, we told her it was what we had earlier in the week, so she gave us the deal. We will have to ask next time before we order unless we plan on staying for a couple of drinks.

Back to the apartment, Andre make chicken quesadillas for supper, dishwasher started and getting ready for our 5:15AM pick up tomorrow morning for Andres birthday of adventures.
