We are on the road again. One day late due to a terrible case of what must have been food poisoning for Andre. It was a terrible night 2 nights ago but he is doing so much better. One thing about getting sick here, lots of bananas and rice available. The hotel has been wonderful. We were able to stay in the same room for an extra night. I showed front desk what we paid Agoda and they matched the price for another night. Still can't believe it's $20.00 cdn including breakfast.
Disappointing as we are shorting ourselves a night on Whale Island resort, but the next 5 days are beach days so he should be back to 100% by then. Only a 2 hour transfer by van today from Nha Trang.
Leaving Nha Trang we see the huge grand stand is still being set up by the lotus flower. They have been working on it for two days now, something big is definitely happening.
Transfer went well, picked up right on time and it was just about 2 hours with us as the only ones in the van, as well as a bunch of supplies for the resort.
Couple of observations from the drive. How do those women manage to stay on the scooters side saddle on the back? Usually it is women in skirts, I can barely manage without sidesaddle.
Who paid for the huge 3 lane highway as you turn off the past the toll road to Whale Island. It is a huge highway and seems like very little population back here. The only thing we could think of was the big sand dunes that we drove by. Are they exporting the sand to someone? Another weird thing about this huge 3 lane divided highway is the turnoff to the left to cross over are few and far between. The locals have looked after this issue by using what we would call the passing lane as a lane to go the wrong way on the highway, crazy the first time we saw it, another reason why I would never drive a car here.
The resort is a 15 minute boat ride from the dock. It is a working dock. We are getting a private transfer in 2 days, I will be very impressed if he finds us.
The resort has about 15 cabins along a beach. You can rent canoes, kayaks, SUP, snorkeling etc. We have our snorkels and masks with us and spent about an hour in the water earlier. Not a lot of fish or coral, but we are going to try a snorkel tour tomorrow and hope for better luck.
This is the perfect spot for Andre to finish recovering from his food poisoning. Not much to do except nap, relax , read and eat. There is a 2 hour hike around the island, I think we will just do the 15 minute walk to the lookout.
Dinner was very good. We are getting breakfast and dinner in our room rate. Bar serves French fries, that will do for lunch tomorrow.
First time we have really noticed stars since we have been here. Very little light pollution, and just a sliver of a moon. First nice sunset as well.
One of the staff came over after dinner and let us know it is OK for us to swap nights and we can stay for 3 nights. We had prepaid through Agoda so assumed we would lose one night since we arrived one day late. I asked when we checked in and they said they would try to get permission. So happy. Now contacting private transfer for next stop and changing reservation from 3 nights to 2.
9pm, calling it an early night. Planning on first wake up call at about 3am when the first extremely noisy fishing boats start going by. Boats or roosters, not sure which is worse. Or maybe the lady pushing the cart selling something by announcing something on a repeat recorder, she will not be here, not sure about the roosters.
Today's pictures:
How can you ride a sooter side saddle?
Rice fields will see more when up north
No lines at the gas stations, don't know why
Water buffalos first time up close
6 lane highway with no traffic going to the resort, some locals going the wrong way because not many right turning places
This area has large sand dunes.
Harbour where we took the resort boat
fish farms and lobster pens, 1000s 0f them here
First view of Whale Island Resort, our home for the next 3 nights
Snorkeling in front of the resort, lots of large sea urchins and a few fish to see
Spent the rest of the afternoon at the beach
Just missing the do not disturb sign
