We are starting to settle into a daily routine here now. No need to set any alarm as we are such a different time zone here, Wendy does not need to get up early for work. We usually walk for about 1 hour from 8-9AM, then to work for Wendy.
Today was laundry day, like most places we have rented in Europe no dryer, but we have a little stand to dry clothes outside, and lots of different balconies to choose from.
We found the market today which only happens one day a week here, on Thursday. Wish it was everyday like we had in Siracusa. Andre will return later to get some fresh vegetables.

Clothes, Fruits & Vegetables plus cheese mainly |

Stopped at the bus station to get the tameable and saw this tour. There is one tour running on every Saturday right now, plus this tour in April, that is it for this time of year. In the summer there is an entire book to look through to pick a tour from |
In the summer, they have an outdoor theatre |
Found a photo exhibit, will return tomorrow as this is the last week it is here |
Around 1PM or so we go for another 1 hour walk, then Andre makes a salad for us for lunch. Wendy works the rest of the day then we go for our final 1 hour walk before supper. So far weather has been great, highs of around 20C, hate the look of the forecast in for later next week, hope it is like home and wrong.

Ferry to the mainland of Greece |
Gelato shops everywhere, Andre is not complaining about this |
Only a few steps to the castle |
Lots of small alleys in old town |
Yes dear, I will meet you at the intersection of …. and ….. |
The alleys are full of small places to eat |
Small plates are called Meze(s) here in Greece like Tapas in Spain. Will need to try this place out. |
Found a fish market near where they have the farmers market. Not a huge selection. |
Small bakery where we got our bread for lunch. |
A fair amount of graffiti here in the town |
Lunch: Greek salad and the bread we bought at the small bakery |
Today we committed to renting a car for the next 6 weekends. The owner of our apartment gave us a name to call, for 20 Euro per day full insurance for 2 drivers we are set to go. Andre is in charge of finding what to do this weekend. We have 6 weekends here in total to do all of our exploring. It is not a huge Island we are on, but I know we won't be able to cover it all.
Today is also the day that we found out US is stopping travel to Europe. Wow, I am glad we are here already, and will be for 2 months, at this moment it doesn't look like Canada will be following along. We talked about what would happen if the coronavirus were to hit Crete badly, but as long as we are just quarantined at home we will be fine. Actually it may be better off here than it would be at our home. There are little shops and restaurants all around us to pick up groceries, and provided they are not forced to close we will be fine. So far we are both healthy, this is not a big city we are in, and since we have no friends here it is pretty much just the 2 of us that we need to worry about catching anything from. Lots of washing hands.
Spoke to Mom tonight for the first time. She is the type of person I really worry about. If the virus were to get into these senior homes it is a disaster, as we have seen in the US.
Out for our third walk before supper, we go out to find where the car rental place is. It is about 1 km from where we are staying.
A bit windier today, about 20KM pr hour |
Sunset colour were nice tonight |
Price of gas has not dropped much here since you need to multiply these prices by 1.5. So $2.40 for gas and $1.90 for diesel |
Leftover pasta from last night for supper, with leftover salad from lunch, and greek yogurt topped with pears and honey for dessert. Life is good in Greece!
Have you seen any other tourists?
