Day 10 Monday Rainy Day

Today is the first rainy day since we got here. It rained on the day we got to Crete but it was all done when we landed in Crete.

We spend the day looking for flights home as we are not 100% sure that we could fly home in 6 weeks and might have to stay here longer until this mess with the virus sorts itself out. If we knew for sure that we could get a flight home in 6 weeks then we would have stayed here for sure. I believe there may be 3 cases on the island we are on but none in our town. I don't believe many tourists are coming to visit now that the restaurants are only open for take-out and as of tomorrow, only groceries store, pharmacies, banks and gas station will be open.
You get a recorded message at Air Canada  that says there too many people already on hold so they cannot put you on hold.

We found flights for Friday that was reasonable in price for Athens to Moncton. We will fly Thursday to Athens from Chania which is about 1 hour bus ride from here (Rethimno) and stay overnight as we have an early flight on Saturday connecting via Frankfurt.

The rest of the day was spend working on pictures from the weekend.

Around 6PM, the light rain stopped and we headed out for a walk in town.  No problem social distancing as there are nobody out tonight as you can see in the pictures. Also some of the restaurants that were open for take out were also closed. Possibly because of the weather and also because of Monday.

I guess we will not be visiting the castle on this trip. We had a chance last week but decided to wait. Oh well.

The wind is also blowing strongly and the waves are very big. Rollande told us that some of the ferries were cancelled today and some flights to the smaller islands. I can see why.  Plus the temperature has dropped about 10 degrees, so back out with winter jackets, the wind is cold!

This restaurant has been closed since they could only do take out.  There was always a few people there as it was a nice location and sheltered from any wind.

This a hookah bar and it was usually full of young people.

For Supper, we had the leftover Greek salad as make a double portion at lunch time.  We shared the leftover stuffed eggplant and peppers from the other night.

  1. Sad to see all the empty streets. Takes away the charm of the island.
