Geraldine is so upset about messing up our reservation and the alarms going off yesterday because of batteries that she gives us 70 Euro and tells us to have supper on her.
Robert picks us up and drove us to Cloondara to start our
bike ride to Strokestown. Today is
mostly on little country roads. Robert
biked part of the way with us then we found the rest of the way on our own, 22km
bike ride today. A little hilly, but the worst part was being chased by dog 3
times!

Many old houses and barn along the way
Found our B&B, Robert had told us first right at the traffic circle, no such thing here. 2 girls were having coffee outside and pointed us in the right direction. We knew the B&B was beside a butchers, found the butcher but he is deaf, no sign outside the B&B but the butcher helped us find it. Shevon gave us tea and coffee and some snacks.
Spent the entire afternoon touring Strokestown Park House. So interesting the stories we heard, excellent guide. We then visited the gardens on site and spent the rest of the afternoon at Famine Way museum which had just reopened a couple of months ago. Spoke to an older couple that came to Famine School before covid hit, her great great grandfather had connections to the area, they were lovely to talk to.
Planned on going to a hotel for supper but turned the wrong way and ended up at a hotel that does not serve food. Opened the door and first thing we heard was “The Queen has died”. Decided to stay for a drink, this is a VERY local pub. Had a nice visit with everyone, Andre always makes me sit beside someone and him on the end if possible, he is really struggling to understand the accents.
