Today we started off by going to Les Halles - a nice indoor market with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Strawberries are in season just starting now, but the price is so ridiculous they are still at the market. Also asparagus is just coming into season, should drop in price next week or the week after they told us, can't wait to see asparagus soup on the menus. Picked up some nice cheese and merguez sausages for supper.
Dropped of the purchases from the market at the apartment and next on the list was to sort out Andre's sim card. Little did we know this would take most of the morning and many steps. Started off by us purchasing the card from a machine and buying the wrong size card. The shop that looks after these cards is just a couple of blocks from where we bought the card so off we go. They send us off to another shop that will cut the card for only 2 Euro, so off we go again. Back to the shop that looks after the cards to get them to install it for us, because we are over 60 lol. They can't get the card to work, urgh. So need to purchase another card for 10 Euro which they said they will refund us. This involved getting some kind of email, setting up a password and then we have an account with them. New card purchased and promise of 10 Euro refund. Not sure how long this all took but I think we have our steps in for the day by now.
Back home for leftover pasta from last night for lunch along with a very good salad with all the things purchased from the market this morning, then we are off again.
This afternoon we wanted to take the little free ferry shuttle across the Rhone River to Iles de la Bartaglasse to have a walk there. Arrived at the shuttle area and it is pretty limited when it runs during off season, and surprise it is not today. Have taken note and will do this another day. This also looks like a fun place to rent bikes, on our list for later for sure.
Walked around the wall and the river for a short distance. Disappointed that right outside the wall is heavy traffic so not a pleasant walk at all, and you can't walk on top of the wall here. I guess we will be doing most of our walking around old town in the evenings, we are going to miss Promenades des anglais in Nice.
Back to the apartment for a rest up and Andre says the credit has not come through for the SIM card and he'd rather get it sorted today than wait. So off we go again to the SIM store, I said I am not going inside again....he is out in about 30 seconds, they told him they were processing it, we shall see.
Walked around old town some more, there are many more streets and alleys than we first thought. So many churches to explore, and once you are away from the main streets some interesting small places to eat or have a drink. We have made note of some places to go back to, found a really nice Italian place that sells fresh pasta, and a nice Greek place that we will return to as well to pick up things for meals at home.
Back home and make plans for where we are going tomorrow. Book a tour which will be in French, will how I do, but it is the only way to explore all we want to do is by tour. We also booked a symphony concert on Friday night at the Opera House, we are near the top again, but he promised us that it was nothing like Nice, we would be fine up there. Free walking tour coming up on Thursday, and we have put an inquiry in for a cemetery tour on Sunday, some busy days coming up.
After supper went for a quick walk to drop off garbage and a short walk around the main square up from our apartment. Still can't believe how quiet it is here compared to Nice. There are many many cute little restaurants, we will have to research and find a couple to try.
Total steps today 21,000 or 13KM, most of these can all be attributed to SIM card purchase.
At les Halles Market
We had problems as well renewing our sim cards. Rollande
