Exploring Nice & St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral

Woke up this morning with plans to go to Eze for the morning, but those quickly changed when rain started much earlier than was originally forecast. Decide that we will just stay around Nice and do some touring here in the rain.

Started off with a walk around the Promenade des Anglais and through to Old Town. We caught Joey up on all the things we heard on our tour the other night that we came across. We walked as far as Le Nespresso hotel, the most luxurious hotel in Nice we think. Rates are posted outside, we will not ever be staying there. This is the furthest we have walked in this direction since we have been here, next time we will do it in sunny weather, not in the rain.

Next off we walk up to St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral, it looks like what we would have seen in St. Petersburg. Unfortunately it looks like we will never make it to St. Petersburg so this may be our one time to see a beautiful Russian Orthodox Cathedral. Unfortunately the Cathedral is only open to visit inside in the afternoon, so we will need to go back for a visit another time.

Walked around by the old train station, which is now used as coffee shops and restaurants, and visited the market that is outside to pick up a few fruit and vegetables for later.

Back home for sandwiches for lunch and out we go again in a little bit of rain to old town.

A visit to the Opera House and purchase tickets for Sunday to see a symphony orchestra, we also have plans to see an orchestra in the Cathedral on Sunday, so we will be well cultured by the end of the day.

Around to see the Statue of Liberty replica donated by the US and pictures of Alexei Navalny and flowers have been set out as a Memoria.

This afternoon we are on the lookout for a fresh pasta place that we read is the best place to get fresh pasta in Old Town, this is our plan for supper tonight. After a few twists and turns with first trying to find a mom and pop bread place that was out of bread we are successful in finding the pasta place. Fantastic person serving us who goes through all our options for ravioli, 4 different kinds end up being purchased as well as a sauce. This turned out to be a total hit, we will be back. They also sell fresh gnocchi and tagliatelle which all of us want to try so a return is definitely in order.

A few games of cards, Wendy is very unlucky, and an early night as we have plans for tomorrow as it is supposed to be decent out and we want to get an early start. For a rainy day 19,700 steps or 12.25 km walked was pretty good.

Exploring Nice.

Will have a creme brulee one of these days

Now on the promenade des anglais.

Many high end hotels

Getting ready to open

A light drizzle all day

Le Nespresso hotel, the most luxurious of all.
Bill Gates wanted to buy it but the owners said no as he was not French. Anyway that what the guide told us the other night.

On the back streets

We tried a carnival pastry. Kind of like a donut consistency.

St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral

At the train Station

At the Liberation Market

Inside the old train station

I love the name

Good thing we stayed in town.

After a rest at the apartment, we went to old town

A tall ship in the distance.

The girls looking at the Statue of Liberty replica donated by the US and pictures of Alexei Navalny, the Russian that died in prison and was Putin's opponent in the upcoming election

The flower market was in the process of coming down
Mimosa shrubs/trees for sale

Found the bakery we were looking for but they were sold out.  Will come back

Found the fresh pasta, got 4 kinds and a sauce

The famous ice cream place calling my name again. It took everything to resist.  Maybe it was the light rain that tilted the scale.

The end without ice cream :-(
