Today was a bit of a rainy morning, but
tours are booked so off we go rain or no rain.
Started off by taking the Subway to Battery Park.
From here we caught the Ferry to our Statue of Liberty
tour. You can see how busy it must be on a nicer day during a busier
time, lots of queues set up that we just walked right up to. Ferry
was a little bit rocky while we were docked, but once we got going it
was OK. Andre went exploring for picture, but Andre, Diane and I
were fine just sitting on the bottom deck.
Don't we all look thrilled to be on the rocky ferry! |
Andre ventured to the top deck for pictures, not too busy |
We were late booking our tour so
couldn’t go up to the Crown, this sells out really quickly. We
were able to get tickets to the Pedestal which considering it wasn’t
that nice out was fine. We took the steps up to the pedestal instead
of waiting in line for the elevator, those were our steps I guess
instead of the Crown steps.
The old flame is being moved . This was at the entrance to a great museum/exhibit that you visit before you go up for views |
We walked around the statue of liberty
island, some great views of the city.
Great Audio Tour |
From here we took the Ferry to Ellis
Island. You could spend an entire day here if you wanted to. Lots
of interesting stories about immigration, hard to imagine what these
people went through when they arrived to this new country.
Ellis Island |
Incredible Hall where immigrants would have first been taken |
Ferry back to Battery park area and
walked around here a bit. We did find Wall Street and
the stock market, as well as the raging bull.
Diane found someone tinier than her! |
Lots of construction around Trinity
Church, we weren’t able to get inside.
We took the subway back towards home
and stopped for lunch at Pure Thai cookhouse, which we all loved,
even if I guilted Andre B into not ordering Pad Thai. This little
restaurant is in Hells Kitchen very close to where our apartment was.
A little more crowded on the subway today |
Back to our apartment for a little rest
before we head out to the Broadway show Come From Away. These
tickets we bought in advance as this is the show we really wanted to
see and it didn’t disappoint. We all loved the show, such talented
actors. They all played so many roles, minimal set changes, so
effective.
Walking home from the show we say a
sign for $5.00 big beer, so needed to stop there. These were huge
beer. Ordered some food as well, then off to bed after another great
day.
