We visited the Lake Maggiore area today at the suggestion of Massimo yesterday over Lake Como.
It was about a 30 minutes drive from our hotel to the start of the lake. We stared our visit at the first small town of Arona
THis was our car key, very confusing the first day... |
We then drove about 20 minutes to Stresa where we did a boat tour to Fisherman Island. The captain let us off on Fisherman Island and came back and picked us up 45 minutes later. You can tell it must be absolutely crazy here in the summer time. There were only 1 or 2 places open on the Island, but so many cute places. The atmosphere must be amazing when it is all open and busy. We were the only 2 on our boat tour.
Our private boat tour |
A short boat ride back to the mainland with the new captain.
We then explore town looking for somewhere to have lunch. Found a nice family place and had a great lunch.
Andre saw on the map that there was a palace near the center of town. Well the palace was actually a convention center (Convention Palace). Near the convention center there was a nice hotel built in 1908. We checked out the grounds and the hotel. Out of our price range.
From Stresa we drove up a little bit further towards the next town, Baveno. We stopped a bit just before town to take pictures but did not visit the town itself as we had other plans.
Further into the mountains. Absolutely beautiful, it reminded us a bit of Banff. We stopped at one stop near the river to look at an old bridge.
We decided to take the highway back to the hotel as daylight was getting short. The GPS took us on some off the beaten path to get to the highway.
Wendy had to back up twice when other cars beat her onto the bridge |
ONe of the many long tunnels in this part of Italy |
Back at the hotel and we have the bottle of wine that Andre purchased on our Chianti tour the other day. We are just eating in at the hotel tonight, which was actually pretty good.
