Avignon

Today we staying around Avignon as we are planning on going to Marseille tomorrow and lots of walking will be involved we think.

First off we walk by our little restaurant that we had lunch at last week and make reservations for 1PM. It is tortellini special today as the meal of the day, so 2 specials ordered.

Walked outside the walls to have a look at the Rhone river, unbelievable how much it has gone down in less than 24 hours. Lots of clean up to be done, but at least the water has gone down.

Walked around town some and then back to lunch. Lunch was excellent, we will try to fit in one more lunch there before we go, depending on their specials. The Dr. Andre visited the other day walked by, Avignon sure is a small town. The waitresses here are so friendly, everyone seems to know everyone here, it really seems like a little local place. At the end of the meal, one of them keep saying “Can I offer you a lemoncello” Does this mean is it free of is she trying to sell more. We imagine the second one. We had a 1/2 liter of rose wine. It is only 7 euro, great price for wine here.

Back home and naps in order, not enough sleep, or too much wine at lunch, maybe a combination of both.

Back out again to the river and lots of clean up has happened. There is so much mud from the river that has been washed away, and the bits of debris have been removed from the road and it looks like everything is opened again. We walked most of the way across the bridge and at least part of the bike paths on the Island are open again. They must be used to this clean up, it was sure done quickly.

Very little needed for supper and an early night as we plan on getting the 8AM train tomorrow.

Steps 13,000 or 8KM

A good spot to sell stuff, this is probably the place where there are the most tourists

Seeing more tourist bus all the time now

Yesterday, the water was up to the camper's tires, the camper was not there

Cruisers enjoying the sun, the boats in the background on the right are house boats

you can see how high the water came

You could if open walk under where the traffic is but very muddy. Yesterday the water was up to the top of the openning

We went back to our favorite place and sat outside, the La Sou'Pape

They have 2 places but serve the full menu at both place. Across the street the also sell hot dogs which the high school are having on the staircase. Might be cheaper for takeout, don't know. The waitresses serve both side.

Even if it does not look good it was SUPER delicious. Ricotta tortellini with a spinach sauce au gratin.
Will be making it at home.  They post their Plat du Jour on Facebook. It is just down the street for us. May return a last time before leaving Avignon.

At vintage store

Walked across the bridge to see how the flooding was doing

We watched them playing boule. Don't understand where you stand to throw the balls. There is a circle where you can take a step anywhere and throw from there.  But then you can also take a few steps and throw hard from that circle..

A warn day, around 20 today

The street are now open for driving
