We returned the car this morning around
8AM. We had not filled up on gas last night and hoped we could find
something along the way. Luckily there was a station on the way and
it was even full service. No need to figure which pump to use, how
to pay etc... The car rental company we used is on the other side of
the wall but only about 5 minutes by car from where we parked. We
walked back which takes about 30 minutes. We stopped at a bakery and
each had a pastry for breakfast. They were yummy. Wendy had a
glazed chocolate croissant thing, she said she is now too old to have
glazed anything at 8AM, never thought I would hear that!
I worked on pictures in the first part
of the morning and the blog. We also booked the underground tour at
the Colosseum in Rome. Tickets only go on sale once a month and today
was the day for March tickets. The tickets sell out if you don't
book on the day they come out or close to it. Only limited numbers
are sold. The website was so slow but we finally managed to get
tickets.
Around 10, I walked to the supermarket
to get some groceries as the fridge is almost empty. Along the way,
I stopped at a place where they sell everything small that you need
for the home. Better than a Dollarama but not too much better stuff.
I bough some rope to be able to tied my grocery bag to my bike for 1
Euro.
I filled up one Sobeys Green reusable
bag to the top and the bill came to only 14 Euro. If you stick to
what is on sale, you can get some good values. Now that we have
groceries, we had a nice large green salad for lunch with some olive
bread.
While I was grocery shopping the
landlord lady came by. The sink is leaking in a container under the
sink. Wendy says she is in 4 inch stilettos heals and skin tight
leather pants and she is squatting to look under the sink. I know
Wendy could not do that. Anyway, I talked to her for a minute as she
was leaving when I got back. Then she hopped on her bike and took
off.
Lunch time walk for us today was to get
directions to where we are going to meet Lucie & Dan tonight. It
is at the same Cycle Bar that we went to the other night near the
amphitheatre. We just wanted to make sure they had the right
address.
Typical lunch for us with Olive oil and Balsamic vinegar as a dressing |
Lots (all) old doors here in town |
Class just got let out at the art school |
Large trees growing on the wall |
with people enjoying the sun at lunch time |
A couple of areas have swings and stuff for the young children. |
We had contacted a seafood restaurant
via Facebook to see if they were open tonight as many are not on
Mondays. We got a reply that they were not. Will need to find
somewhere else to go tonight.
The rest of the afternoon was spent
going thru my pictures from this weekend and completing the blogs.
We were to meet Lucie and Dan at 7:30
at the cycle bar. We left around 7:10 since it is a good 10-15
minutes walk to the bar we were going to meet them. Not too far on
the next street from our place, we see Lucie and Dan walking towards
us. I figured they were coming to our place but no, they were
completely twisted around. This city does that easily! They had 4
bottles of wine for us, so we walked backed to the apartment and drop
them off. Gave them the 5 minutes tour of our place and off we go to
find a restaurant that is open and looks good.
We start our walk towards the
amphitheatre area of town as lots of the restaurant are located
there. We find a place on the street next to our place that looks
interesting.
We sit down and order water and Chianti
wine that the waitress recommended to start. The menu is mostly
Italian with the odd thing translated in English. The Specials on
the wall are all in Italian as well. The table next to us had
ordered a plate of antipasto (prosciutto, salami, another cured meat
and cheese) to start with, so we decided to order that too.
Lucie, Dan and I ordered Osso Bucco as
it was on the special board and we knew what that meant and we all
like it very much. Wendy was not sure what she wanted and what was
on the menu. We asked the waitress to explain the specials to us.
She knew some English but not very much. Wendy decided to order some
pasta off the menu. When we got our meals , Wendy ended up being
pork in a mustard sauce topped with a pile of arugula with lots of
olive oil. It was actually delicious
We had a second bottle of wine with the
meal. We talked a lot of their trip to Cinque Terre, and Venice when
Dan proposed to Lucie in a Gondola last week-end. Lots of
excitement, a beautiful ring, looking forward to hearing wedding
plans, Italy?
We decided to have dessert and asked
what was on the menu and the waitress said no dessert but the chef
was finishing some cream brule. We all said yes. Not the best I
ever had but it still tasted good. Wendy's was not cooked enough and
was too runny for her, so she only eat the top half as it was more set.
We asked for lemoncello but none was
available but she suggested a sweet Italian wine instead. It tasted
a lot like port which we all enjoyed very much. Will have to go back and get the name as we will try to find some for the apartment. I pretended to steal the bottle and the waitress said I could but I left it behind.
We walked Lucie and Dan back to where
they parked their car and said our goodbyes as they are leaving to
go back to NB tomorrow.
