Donkey sanctuary

This morning we jogged along the beach for a change.  The air was fresh. The wind was still up and also right into us going out.  Was nice to make the uturn and run with the wind to our backs.  Another beautiful morning with only a band of cloud along the horizon which we hope will clear so that we get a nice sunny day.

They installed garbage bin.  Not sure how they will stand up to the winds

I hope this is the last of the clouds we see for a while

Still Splashing

Outdoor movie theater????

Usual breakfast and a load of wash in order for us to have clean clothes for the weekend.   Glad to report that the shower is draining properly.  No more feet in an inch of water while having your shower.

Looks much better than yesterday

At lunch time, Wendy and I headed to the donkey sanctuary.  It took us about 15 minutes to walk there.  We made a 2€ donation and got a bucket of food to feed the animals.  They also gave us bio sheets of all the animals.  One of the donkeys was a drug runner and so was his owner.  When the owner got arrested, the donkey came here.  Besides the Donkeys, there was a few dogs, cats, a sheep  and 2 or 3 pigs.  One of the pigs kept following us for more food.  He would push his nose against our legs for more food.  There were a couple of donkeys that did not look so good.  I guess they must have been new here.  It was fun but I think we failed at feeding the animals as we did not trust them not to bite us so often the food would just fall to the ground.

One at a time please

This guy was fat

Much easier with the bucket

Donkey sanctuary is next to this sign of Nerja

This is why the strawberries are so good

The beach restaurant next to the Balcon is now open

Back home, we had our salad on the patio.  I went for a walk to the Balcon. There is a lots more people around today as it is about 20 degrees and sunny.  Even if the wind is up, it is better than the last 2 days.

I spent the afternoon reading magazines that I had picked up today.  Yesterday, I picked the free magazine, the olive press, and in it there was a section on this area, Axarquia.  Many good articles about the villages/town in this area including Nerja is in it.  I also worked on my photobook for Tanzania and I am now ¾ done.  I hope to finish it before the end of next week.

We also did an afternoon ice cream break.  I love these lemon ice cream.  The center of the lemon is taken out and some of that is used to make lemon ice cream which is then used to refill the lemon.  The only place I have seen them in town is the Mercadona except for last night at the Asian Ben restaurant for more than 3 times the price.  At the grocery store they are 1€ each.  The owners of the apartment we rented last year had introduced us to them and for that I am forever grateful.

The smile is real

YUMMMMMMY

Antonio the handyman arrived around 4:45 with replacement pieces to fix the blind.  The pieces did not really fit the opening that already existed so we had to try to combine the old and new.  We worked at it for over 1 hour.  It is better than it was but not as good as when we first got here.

We had leftover pasta for supper while we enjoyed a picture of sangria.  I had picked up some shrimps early in the week, so I pan fried these and we had them with the pasta.  After supper, we played crib where I skunked Wendy in the first game.

So she decided to go have a late siesta since tonight at the cultural center (Movie Theater), there is a tango show. She was afraid that she might fall asleep during it, hard to imagine that. I bet she still falls asleep anyway.  It is only scheduled to last 90 minutes but lasted less than that. It started early, 9:10, scheduled for 9PM which is early compared to the last concert we went to.  The show was fantastic. A woman was singing & playing the guitar and a man was singing & playing an accordion or guitar.  A couple danced the tango about ½ the time.  It was all in Spanish but you could feel the emotion when they were singing.

This weekend we are heading to Baeza and Ubeda.  These towns were recommended by the apartment owners, hopefully our GPS will make it there and back.  We would like to take some back roads on the way home.  Without a GPS it is harder.  Not sure if we will have an internet connection tomorrow or not, so the blogs may have to wait until we get home on Sunday or Monday.
