Grand Manan Puffins Day 1

This is our second trip to Grand Manan to try to go see the puffins.  The last one, the boat tour was cancelled due to weather.

An old barn on the way to Blacks Harbour

House on wheels

We spend 30 minutes exploring the bays and the sea floor near the ferry terminal while waiting for the ferry

Discarded engine block covered with seaweed.

No email about the puffin tour being cancelled, lets hope it stays that way.  We are loading at very low tide as you can see in the picture below.

First stop, an cookie ice cream sandwich Yummmm

Our first stop is at the tip of the island to see Long Eddy Lighthouse.  If you drive pass it you can go down to the beach area.  One lady was collecting some type of seaweed. There were a few small fishing boats on the shoreline.  There is a small bleacher where people come to watch for whales and/or the sunset.  The last time we were here we came to watch the sunset and people were passing a bag of dulce around as if it was a bag a popcorn. We looked for whales but did not see any.

At the lighthouse, we found a nice hiking trail with beautiful views. It took us almost 2 hours to do the loop taking our time.

Wendy loves signs like this

We then drove to Whale Cove which is where you could end up if you did not do a loop hike like we did. We saw some seals in the cove.

Dulce being dried for selling

We stopped at Woodward Cove to check out at Take Out place for getting something for dinner but decided to skip that. The menu looked ok, maybe next time. A few old fishing building but not much else to do.

We decided to go the Trapped patio again for a drink and a lobster dip as we enjoyed it last time.

We got this when we asked for the bill. You go inside the gift shop to pay where they punch a real bill.

Back at he cottage, we decided to walk to the Ingalls Head wharf for a bit more exercise before supper.

Our cottage

Love the roof on this old house

Never too many fishing boat for my liking

All sizes of boats here

After supper, I head down the beach in front of our cottage to where a few fisherman have their sheds and traps.

Low tide

Bait scoop like I used to use for bait when I was fishing

I believe these are use as anchor for the lobster trap as the tides are very strong in the area.

Grandma watching over the sheds

They were collecting seaweed.
