After some discussion about which day is best to visit Willemstad we decided today was the day. We thought it may be best to go when there are no cruise ships in port, but our neighbours at the rental told us there is more open and more fun to go on a cruise ship day. Plus it is so off season there is supposed to only be one ship in port. So after a morning snorkel we are off, about a 45 minute drive to the city. Off we go to the capital city.
Crossing the Queen Emma Bridge, which connects Punda and Otrobanda quarters. It is a hinged bridge that we saw open. Very pretty views from the bridge. |
Great idea, somewhere to hang a lock instead of on the bridge |
the floating bridge can be swung to let ships go by. |
Taking shelter from the rain. Only lasted about 15 minutes or so |
Maybe Andres favourite stop |
Lots of cool murals all over the city |
Poured rain for about 15 minutes |
Visited the oldest operating synagogue in the Western Hemisphere, notice the sand floor
Lunch in the old market, most locals in here
Goat stew for Andre |
Delicious pancakes for Wendy |
After spending the day touring Willemstad on the drive home we are on the hunt for flamingos, success at Selina Saint Mary near
Willibrordus. You just park your car on the side of the road and they are right there.
After doing groceries and back at the condo, another swim was in order.

Dinner tonight we just made some pasta at our rentals, then enjoyed another great sunset. Think we started playing 31 this night too, but it is bad memories of Andre always winning....
