Going North

Another yummy breakfast this morning, oatmeal with partridge berry, I loved it, Andre probably not so much. Today we have about a 4 hour drive to get to the northern part of the Island where we will spend 2 nights.

Our favourite B&B for breakfast

First stop today was to fill up on gas, $1.38/litre, ouch. Next we travel up to Port Au Choix. It is pretty cold today, 10-12 is the high we reached, brrrr. We started off in some rain, but after about an hour it was done pretty much for the day. We watched the video and walked around the information centre in Port Au Choix. We drove to the lighthouse, looked for caribou, but no luck for us today. We've heard they are best to see at dusk, but we won't be hanging around until then.

Off next to Phillips Gardens, which was a really pretty drive and a nice walk along the ocean again. Of course we had to stop at a small fishing village near the walk for Andre to take pictures.

Our next stop was to get some warm clothing back in the town of Port au choix. Andre went to take some more boat pictures while I shopped. We bought some tuques and I got some more long socks and one more sweater to add to the layers. We also bought lunch at the store, chocolate bar, cookies.

Off next to Flowers Cove to see the thrombolites, which can only be found here and in Australia. These formations date back 500 million years. We had a dog meet us at our car, so we called him our tour guide, but he was not the best guide and left us part way through.

We then tried to find a Church that was built from money raised selling seal skin boots, but weren't successful with that one. We did have some nice views of Labrador from here.

This could be the church built from money raised selling seal skin boots,  but we are not sure.

Next off we headed to Gunners Cove where we had supper at Northern Delight which Eileen had recommended. Andre had Newfoundland Brewis which was quite good, I had the fish and chips which were also good.

We then drove to Quirpon to check where we would have to go tomorrow to catch our boat to go to the island.

Moose hunting season has started, there will be some full freezers

We are now at our B&B in Hays Cove for the night. We have a gorgeous view from our balcony, but unfortunately it is too cold to use it. There were 4 moose around last night, but haven't seen them so far tonight.

We did a little hike up above the wharf which some nice views, but it is a little rainy and getting dark so we cut it a little short. Managed to get a small load of wash done, nice to have everything clean again. A very full day again tomorrow, looking forward to not doing much driving.
