Day 3 - Singapore - Light Shows

We started off today by going to a hotel with views of the city, instead of the expensive price downtown we went to a $6 entrance fee for a skybridge

Take away hot beverages were always given this little half bag thing to carry the cups.  No idea if they are reusable or not

So many fruit choices

50th floor for the skybridge

What was this guy doing on the 50th floor?

This is the skybridge that we walked, there were 8 or 9 buildings all connected by the skybride that you could walk around

Little garden on the skybridge 50th floor

Next we walked to Chinatown again to see the heritage centre which as a huge impressive model of Singapore, as well of a history of the development of Singapore over the years.  Very interesting

Off for a parade or something

Lots of little parks right in the city

Lunchtime, piano set up to play

Amazing model of the city

Hawker market for lunch again right outside the heritage centre.  We walked through the stands on the way to the heritage centre and there were huge line ups at one of them, so we knew where to check out when we were done.  The stall was recommend by Anthony Bordain, there is a newspaper article from years ago on the wall that this is the place to order Chicken Rice, which is what we did.  $5 for a very yummy chicken rice meal.

Hawker market at lunch time

This hawker had the largest line. Always a good sign.

Chicken rice, very yummy

Mango juice again

Took the MRT to Orchard which is a very expensive high end shopping.  From here we walked to the Cambodian embassy, much less expensive to get our Visa here then to get it onboard the ship.  We needed to get our pictures taken at a little photo booth and then get some Singapore dollars, they only accepted cash.  All set up for our one day in Cambodia, you need a Visa whether you are getting off the ship or not.

Back to get the MRT at Orchard shopping plaza again, there is a lion dance going on that is fun to watch.  It involved throwing lettuce out of the lions mouth, and the lion giving the store attendants a hard time.

Orchard Mall, wow, too $$$ for us again

This lion in the mall, he threw the food out of his mouth at the end of his performance

We had met some fellow cruisers online that were also in Singapore early and someone picked that we should meet up at Raffles hotel for a drink and to meet each other before the cruise.  Raffles claim to fame is it has the bar where the Singapore sling was invented.  It is a very nice old hotel, but oh so expensive for drinks.  6 other people showed up, but it was great to meet some fellow travellers even though a beer and spritz cost us $50. 2 Singapore Slings would have been $76 with Tax & Tips.

St. Andrews Anglican Church, in central Singapore

Interesting architecture

Visited for one drink only then off to the Sands for a quick supper in the mall downstairs, then off to see the light show at Gardens by the Bay.  This is a free light show, and following that one we went on to the free show at the Sands.  Both were impressive and fun to do.

Following the shows we walked around the perimeter of the water all the way back to the MRT.  The skyline is beautiful at night as well, lots of great photo ops.  There was a man selling ice cream, it was in blocks that he cut a slice off and you put it between 2 wafer cookies, very yummy.
