Great breakfast this morning, what a great find this spot
was. A fantastic older couple run this
place, full of great information. We
asked if we should stop somewhere on our way to St Andrews, no way, get right
there so much to see.
First stop though was at the hotel where we had originally
booked to stay in Turret rooms. Decided
the week before we came that it just wasn’t worth the money, so changed to this
great Inn where we spent last night.
Some photo ops at the hotel, but I think we are all glad we stayed where
we did.

Hotel where we had originally booked, a little like Banff Springs Hotel from the outside |
Next stop St. Andrews.
We found a place to park on the road that ran along directly outside the
Old Course Hotel. I think it is mostly
construction workers that are parking here, lots of work going on as the 144
open is in a couple of weeks at the old course.
Lots of grand stands have been completed, kind of took some of the charm
away I thought, but fun to see how many spectators are going to be around. We ended up on hole 17 and spoke to a great
gentleman that was sitting on a bench watching the golfers, he normally golf
here every day but was taking the day off, maybe too sunny for him. It is an absolutely beautiful day, lots of
sun, very little wind, whoever had booked for today certainly got lucky. Fun to see some of the things we have seen on
TV, the amazing bunkers, the road hole, #17 drivers hitting over the hotel, you
can venture out onto the golf course wherever you want, just need to watch out
for golfers. Got some fun pictures and
walked around a little.

18th green Old course, 1st tee in behind, one big fairway used by both. Unfortunately no golf this trip, but fun to watch |
We had lunch at a little coffee shop where a sign read where
Kate and Will met for coffee.
This was
on the recommendation of a woman at the castle , Kate had also waitressed with
a relative of hers, fun to hear the connection.
Looked for some Open souvenirs, but wow so expensive. Andre managed to find a hat, but the prices
really were outrageous. Will look around
again in Edinburgh and hope that it is more reasonable there. I did but the most expensive pair of socks
ever, blisters started on my heels so I needed socks, so 7.50 GBP later I have
a pair of golf socks, yep that’s $15 cdn for 1 pair of foot joy socks that I
probably have 20 pairs of at home.
Stopped at one more town along the water – Crail – had some
ice cream and I had a little break from driving. It is low tide again, all the boats are on
the ground in the harbour, really big tides here, reminded us a bit of Alma
back home.

Crail |
We are now in our apartment for 2 nights in Edinburgh. We went out for supper at a little place
around the corner from us, a nice walk after supper and picked up some things
for breakfast tomorrow. A full day
planned tomorrow of touring Edinburgh.
It is funny to be in such a big city again, but I am looking forward to
not having to pack up again in the morning and move to another place.

Love this parking, I could have used it a few times this trip |
