9.000
steps
160
kms and over 6 hours of driving with lots of stops
After
breakfast this morning we took one last walk around the beach outside
our B&B. It is a beautiful spot, would definitely stay here
again in Otranto.
Decided
to drive the shore road, even though it is longer than the inside
road, but we can only check in at 3PM this afternoon so we have lots
of time to visit more beautiful scenic roads.
We
just follow along on google maps and pick places that look scenic.
We have no real plans except to enjoy the views.
A
stop for lunch at one of the very few places we see open. It was not
the best, but we are no longer hungry. It was more of a little bar
with a few things you could order and he would warm them up. Looked
like things were supplied from a bakery, cookies were the best part
of lunch.
Saw
our first wind surfers, it is extremely windy as the day goes along,
there was little wind when we started out this morning.
Like
most places we have visited up to now there is hardly anything open,
or anyone around. Locals aren't even bothering to stop at stop
signs. We hardly see anyone on the road, it has made for pretty easy
driving.
I
had one last stop that I wanted to see before we headed to our new
place, but what a dud it turned out to be. I saw 5 pools for
swimming on the waterfront, I thought they were natural, no ugly man
made things. I can't imagine how busy this must be in the summer
time. Plus there is a huge ugly I think electricity plant in the
back, a total waste of time.
Off
to find our new rental for the next 5 nights. We stop first for
groceries as we know we are really far out of the way to any grocery
stores once we arrive at our place, and I know we won't want to go
out again. The drive is fine until the last 3 km, which is a tiny
street that is 2 way, reminds me a bit of Ireland as there is stone
fences on either side of this extremely narrow road. Luckily did not
meet any traffic, it would not have been fun.
We
are greeted by huge work being done on the garden in front of our
trulli. The olive trees have all been trimmed and branches are
everywhere. We are not in the little trulli cottage we had booked,
but we are happy with what we got. I think we are the only guests
here, and maybe the first guests here? We are checked in by a lady
that does not speak any french or english, and our italian is pretty
much non existent, but we figure everything out. Problem with the
wifi but she says Giorgio will fix it. Our phone internet is non
existent inside our trulli, I need to walk outside a little away from
the cottage outside. Andre decides to whatsapp Giorgio at about 7PM
to ask about the wifi, he said he didn't know we had checked in. It
was his mother that checked us in lol. Anyway all is sorted now, we
should be good. We know how to turn the heat on, and he has found us
a cheese grater, life is good.
Supper
done, thanks Andre, and we are all settled in. Tomorrow is
definitely laundry day, plus plans to visit 2 smaller villages.
Another fun day planned for tomorrow, except for the drive down this
tiny lane!
