Da Nang to Hue, Imperial city

One last massive buffet breakfast and packing up time.

Unpack clean laundry and find one extra pretty lace black bra that would have fit me when I was about 10 years old, won't bother packing that even though it wouldn't take up much too much room.

Eva from Eva Homestay has arranged a driver for us to drive by car the Hai Van Pass to Hue, right on time at 10am. A little foggy/misty so even though it was a pretty drive it could have bern even nicer. The pass isn't all that long, I understand why people like to do it on motorcycle.  We saw 4 people on peddle bikes, you would have to be in amazing shape to do that.  2 photo stops on the way over the pass and it took us about 3 hours to reach Hue.

Staying at Eva Homestay.  First time we take our shoes off outside for anywhere we have stayed and leave them outside, certainly would keep the floors cleaner. She said she brings them inside at night for security.  Eva is a sweetheart,  I haven't been in love on this trip for quite a while, I may be in love again.  Turns out it was her brother that drove us today, he hardly speaks any English.  Had quite a laugh with Eva when she asked if he was a good driver while he was standing beside us and I said terrible driver, he said thank you with a big smile, poor guy.

Off to Hanh restaurant for lunch to try the pancakes from Hue. Once again we had to be shown how to eat them.  Really good, I think it was the first time for peanut sauce this trip, and I think it was figs that we mixed in with lettuce, pickled veggies, cucumbers with our shrimp and pork pancakes. May be our lunch again tomorrow,  or at least the same spot, they have a few other Hue dishes to try.

Off to the Purple Forbidden City. We are buying a 2 day pass so tomorrow will visit the Royal Tombs.  Cash only and we are running really low on cash now, tried VP bank again today and I think we are trying to take out too much. Will really need to get this sorted soon.

Spent 3 hours exploring Forbidden City. Two of what looked like principal buildings are under renovation so that was a little disappointing,  but still lots of places to explore. Thankfully the sun did not come out this afternoon or I don't know how well we would have done  it was still hot without the sun.
The whole city is surrounded by high walls and a wide mote. Inside there are many other high walls and beautiful gates.

Decided best to get a taxi or grab back to Eva's,  we always check grab prices now and if a taxi is waiting and will match the price use him. Today grab was 45k, taxi started at 100k and would only come down to 70k, so grab it was.

Check with Eva to see where to exchange money, I still have quite a bit of cdn with me. She asked what we got last time, she said she had enough cash to change $300.00 for us at the same rate, that  was easy.

Supper tonight and we opt for something more like home.  I have a chicken burger and Andre BBQ chicken pizza. Had a laugh when I think my chicken burger was the exact same as Andres pizza chicken. It was all little pieces of chicken in a bun, but it was good.

Walked along the Perfume river after dinner. The bridge we crossed this afternoon is all lit up at night, not quite as exciting as the dragon bridge in Da Dang, but still pretty.

Heat and travel day have done us in. Heineken for the room, not Andres favorite but all the others felt warm in the fridge.

Hoping the sun does not make too strong of an appearance tomorrow.
