Xi-an on to Wuhan

Our first disappointing day of the trip.  Started off with a airplane ride from Xi'An to Wuhan.  We have never heard of Wuhan before, but with a population of only 10 million I can understand why we haven't heard of it!!

First stop is at lunch, pretty much the same lunch and supper we have been having all week.  From here we are let loose to go shopping for a couple of hours.  We understood it was going to be some fun market shopping, no this is a new part of the city only built since 2010, so of course nothing traditional here.  It was a pedestrian outdoor mall then went on for about 1.5 km, hated it.  We could have been anywhere in the world.  We were walking with another couple and saw a pub sign across the river, he is British so off we went.  Got to the pub only to find that it was not open.  In our Chinese sign language asked some guys outside where to go for a drink, nowhere.  Back to the bus to ask Bella if she knows somewhere to go for a drink, no.  Andre took off walking and found a little corner store, 2 beer and a coke for $2.00, we are good for hanging out on the street corner and having a drink.  Our bus driver was taking pictures of us.  That is something I haven't mentioned, every now and then the Chinese will come up to take our pictures.  Bella says it is people from the country that don't see big nose people (yes she said this) and they take our pictures and go back to their home to show their friends that they saw big nose people.  Every now and then someone will just say “hi” as well, they are practising their English, but that is the extent of their English I think.

Grandsons would have liked this!

Size 5 and you are plus size here?

The guys found beer to have on the street corner

After lunch we were given some time to walk around the lake, a popular spot for locals again

For supper tonight we went to a Tibetan restaurant, I am not sure how we were supposed to tell this was any different from the rest of the buffets we have had so far.  Maybe more vegetarian?

After supper we were taken to our hotel in Wuhan for the night, which is right on the bend of the Yangtze river.  We are back early to our hotel here compared to all other nights so we went for a walk along the beautiful bund.  What a fantastic spot, there is quite a light show on the buildings along the water, we actually have a beautiful view from our room at the hotel as well.  We walked about 45 minutes along different pathways, lots of locals out as it is Friday night.  We started heading back along the main road away from the water, lots of bars here, but we figure we would get carded and told we couldn't go in because we are too old.

Walkway lit up at night

Telescope that we paid to look through to see the full moon

Back at the hotel at around 10PM, took the glass elevator to the top to see the views, but the light show seems to have stopped so we call it a night.
